It seems that storm chasers and storm spotters are always having problems when they try to rig a wind meter (anemometer) to their chase vehicles. I've seen everything from a broomstick to a pvc pipe used to mount the cups. The problems with such a set-up are obvious: the instrument package can be difficult to secure without drilling a hole in your roof or engineering a complicated mount. Fixed mounts can also be difficult to remove, which is often required for low overhangs, car washes, etc. (Do storm chasers and spotters even wash their cars?).
